Slope Report: Mt. Hood Meadows

It snowed four inches overnight and snowed an inch an hour all day. It was strange, rimed snow. It was fast and drifted and I couldn’t get a feel for it. The light was poor and the wind was howling. I skied in Heather Canyon and on the Starlighter side. The mountain had an unfriendly feeling. At moments the air at the top of the canyon was sickly strong with fumerole gas.

My mood was poor and I needed a change of tack. I filmed a beer still life that I named Cold and Awful Wilderness With IPA. Then I drove to White River, put my skins on, and skied up the river a ways to capture some stream footage. The White River was very wonderful and at times the sky thinned out so that big portions of sunlight lit up the spindrift and shined on the snow.
